May the wind be Gentle
“Soave sia il vento” (“May the wind be gentle”) is a scene from Act 1 of Mozart’s opera Così fan tutte. Sung by the heroines, Dorabella and Fiordiligi, as they bid a bittersweet farewell to their lovers departing by sea, the aria features an exquisitely beautiful melody soaring over a fluid accompaniment suggesting currents of water and wind. This arrangement for two pianos is faithful to the original in structure and spirit.
